The stars were out to shine

Our star of the evening is........Jaxson!

This evening was the preschool art show and silent auction. All of the kids ages 3-5 had at least one piece of artwork matted and framed, hanging in the halls of the elementary school for all to see. It was so cute to see what their little minds can create. There were a few of them that really caught my eye.

Dear Lego

Let me first start by saying thank you (I think). You have entertained my kids for endless hours since Christmas. They have enjoyed creating, building, breaking and creating over and over again. Since Christmas we have received and bought a few of your "Lego kits" that consist of directions and pieces to create very cool cars, forts and helicopters, but there is a problem with them. My oldest loves to build them and put them on a shelf to be admired and looked at. My middle son (who is 3) loves to play with and break those creations and my youngest (who is 2) likes to eat those creations. Why do you feel the need to make your pieces smaller and smaller making them easier to lose ALL OVER my house and get sucked up in my vacuum? I swear I find Lego's everywhere.............on the floor, in the bath tub, in my shoes, in the clean and dirty laundry. They are in the bathrooms, the kitchen, the garage, the car and in my bed. Can I tell you how uncomfortable it is to crawl into bed after a long day and find a little Lego man creeping up my pant legs or him finding a cozy spot in the middle of my left butt cheek is??? The only place I have yet to find one is in my child's dirty diaper................I said yet. How do you expect me to keep track of a thousand or more little pieces without them disappearing??? I think your next kit should include glue to keep their creations in tact, in one permanent piece. Please, I am begging you for the sake of my sanity, I cannot handle the children fighting over you, the constant cleaning of Lego's and always reminding my child not to eat and choke on you.

Hanabi Grill.............sooooo good!

Having family in town means lots of visiting and entertaining and among the entertainment you have to eat! Therefore we went out to a wonderful restaurant for dinner tonight.

Hanabi Grill is a Japanese restaurant consisting of hibachi grills and the chefs prepare your food right in front of you. If that's not your style you can sit at a regular table or in the lounge and order from the regular menu. Hanabi has a great atmosphere, wonderful service and some of the BEST food around (steak, lobster, shrimp, scallops, chicken, sushi). Not only that, it's entertaining, you can't beat that........dinner and a show at the same time! The chef's have many years of training and they do some of the best cooking "tricks" you can imagine (talk about playing with your food). They let you catch it in your mouth when they toss it to you, they make bubbling and spewing volcanoes and do lots of knife tricks. It's fun, but a little intimidating for the little ones the first few times you go. I remembered to take my camera tonight and thought I would share some with you. If you live in Colorado or plan on visiting I highly suggest visiting!

When's it going to end?!!!!!

Yes I'm talking about the sickness in my house! Holy cow it's been 2 weeks now and nothing has changed. Well I can't say nothing, actually it's gotten worse. 2 out of 3 kids have had horrible colds that include CONSTANT coughing, fever, running noses, black circles under their eyes and pure crankiness!

Late yesterday I was able to get Jax into the doctor for a late appointment because he woke up looking like death was at our freakin door. He didn't improve throughout the day, he took a 3 hour nap and coughed so much that I just couldn't stand it anymore. We got to the doctor and he was concerned enough to tell me we had to do chest xrays because he suspected pneumonia! That was enough to freak me out right then and there. He said he sounded pretty "rattly" in his lungs. Our oldest son Shay has dealt with asthma since he was 1 1/2 years old and I just don't want to deal with another child and breathing issues; It's horrible! Luckily his lungs were clear and he gave us an antibiotic, he also told us that the cough would probably last for another week or so. Ughhhhh, I can't stand not being able to relieve him so I tried something tonight that I always tell people about but have never had the chance (or remembered) to actually try it. Vicks, not on his chest but on his feet. I have heard that it works wonders because there are so many pressure points on the bottom of your feet.

I'm a believer! His cough has practically stopped and I did it 20 minutes ago!!!! I am so happy and now lets hope we can both get some sleep tonight!
Let's hope the baby is getting better and not worse like Jax did. You tell me, how pathetic is this...................

Wordful Wednesday

I can't believe it has been 9 years that you came into my life! It has been such a fun and wonderful experience having you as my son. You and your brothers are my world but you will always have a special spot in my were my first baby.

You have a wonderful personality that could light up a room and make anyone laugh. However you're really stubborn and persistent! Some days I could just wring your neck but I guess that is what parenting is all about. There are good days and bad days. I love you so much and I look forward to all of the upcoming years with you. I love you!!!!!

Have a wonderful birthday
love mommy

(you will have to excuse the old pictures! No digital back then ya know?! I had to take pictures of pictures!)

blown out of proportion

I of all people would never condone bullying in any environment, especially at school, but I think some people have taken what is considered 'bullying" to extremes. There will never be a time when kids don't pick on and tease each other. It's inevitable and it's going to happen. I as a parent accept that fact and agree with it to an extent. I draw the line when it's hurting a kids self esteem, they are scared to go to school and just cant handle it. Constant name calling, threatening and harassing will not be tolerated. But, kids will be kids. They pick on each other!

My husband and I have taught our kids to be problem solvers and to use their words when something is wrong or when someone says or does something that they don't like. We are teaching our kids to stick up for themselves and not to depend on us or others to be their problem solvers all of the time. They know that if someone hurts their feelings or do something that they don't like that sometimes they just need to suck it up and deal with it because as they get older they will find out that not everyone is nice and kind. There are mean, rude and disrespectful people in this world and we need to deal with them whether we like it or not.

I got a phone call from my sons principal on Friday with the news that he had been sent to the office because he was informed by a parent that my son had been harassing and bullying their student. I immediately became furious and started in with the 20 questions. None of which the principal could answer due to "confidentiality". The only thing he could tell me was that my son and another male student (whom are ALL in 3rd grade) chased a boy home and told him they were going to "knock his head off". I responded in telling him that Shay would be talked to and given the appropriate punishment. After I hung up the phone I began thinking about what would be the appropriate punishment.........but I didn't know the whole story. I confided in the hubby and he felt the same as I, we didn't know both sides of the story. We know our child enough to know that it's not like him to be mean and hurtful. We decided to wait on any decisions and hear what he had to say for himself.

Come 3:40 pm our son comes in the front door and immediately says " I know, I'm grounded". "Actually no, we want to hear your side of it". He begins to tell us that this other boy was taking his hat and calling him names (shrimpy and wimp) on the playground. He says this boy is about a foot taller than him. He also says that the teacher and principal told him if he had been the one to "tattle" first that he wouldn't be in any sort of trouble!!!! I'm sorry but there is no way in hell that we are going to teach our kid to be a pansy ass and tell every time something (minor) happens that he doesn't like. Anyway, he and his buddy chased this kid home but left him alone after he turned the corner. So it was only 1 1/2 blocks. We had our talk with Shay and told him that he needs to stay away from that kid and that he can't talk to people like that. He understood and that was that, so we thought.

Monday comes around and he comes home and tells me that this kids mother walked to school with him and when he saw them he crossed the street but still heard the child say his name and was pointing him out to his mom. Shay kept walking to school and went to line up for class when this woman approached him. Let me remind you that all of the boys involved are in 3rd grade. She had the nerve to confront him and tell him that she doesn't appreciate my son harassing her son and that she will not tolerated it. She asked him if he would like to be harassed!! He didn't even know how to answer her and he was a little afraid. Being that she was about 5 inches from his face and whispering so that only he could hear. He was then sent to the office again because this boy said that Shay confronted him about tattling to the principal! My son is a horrible liar and I know when he is telling me the truth. He was being completely honest and never talked to the kid again.

My husband plans on walking our son to school tomorrow and confronting the principal and ask him "who is harassing who now". I refuse to have an adult threaten my children and there will be something done about it.

The Band Aid theory

My first son refused to put a band aid on. EVER. Even if he was really bleeding, no way no how! He has grown out of that thank goodness because he is a boy, you know, he tends to get hurt, A LOT.

Jaxson on the other hand thinks he needs one for everything and being a boy, a very clumsy boy I might add, he tends to get hurt a lot! So yesterday he gets a small scratch on his hand and begs for a stupid band aid. I finally gave in after arguing that he doesn't need one! (I bought those new waterproof "tattoo" band aids and he thinks they're the coolest thing ever). Anyway he had it on for a few hours and comes to me insisting that his owie is all gone and he can take it off. After another argument I gave in and took it off. He asks me if he can see the band aid and upon examining it he asks me "where's the owie?"
I said " what do you mean? it's on your hand".
He says spitting the words at me, "nooooo, the owie is sposssse to come off with the band aid!!!!" My response was me busting out laughing.

Why can't I have a video camera going at all times?

Freaking out on my kid

Saw this video today and I had to share!
I would freak out and have a panic attack. Then again I watch my kids close enough that this wouldn't happen. EVER.
This video has no sound with it but I think I can imagine and it goes somthing like this..................
"Hey sis, see if you can reach one of those toys................oh, um ,well no, dont do that! Crap maybe mom wont notice"
"Hey Fred, you win anything on that scratch ticket? hey, you! tell your sister we're leavin"
"Holy shit Fred! come look at sissy, how in the hell did she manage that?"
"Well I'll be, how you gonna git her outta there?"

Good lord people, watch your kids!!!!!!!!!!!
