Thank God for Vacations and Bloggy Advice

This weekend couldn't have come at a better time or sooner! I get to go away and have a girls scrap booking vacation. Yes I can hear you all gasping and wondering how the hell I pulled it off. We (8 of us) have rented out a whole B&B to ourselves for 3 days, 3 days filled with scrap booking, gossip, laughter, eating (hot food that I didn't have to cook), drinking (lots), sleeping in and no responsibilities! Are you jealous yet? Well let me add that there is a masseuse and I am scheduled to get an hour long massage, as well as a hot tub to soak in! I couldn't be more excited! Even though I will miss my children more than you know, I wont miss their arguing, screaming, fighting, whining, mess making and what ever else they manage to fill my day with crap!!!! At this point I don't care that it is in Bennett Colorado and its in the middle of nowhere. All I know is that its going to be me and me with my girls.
Why you ask, did this weekend come at such a good time? Well I'm officially on my last nerve. My children have worn me out and used up ALL of my patience. No only that but the Prozac ran out and I haven't had the sweet little miracle pill for over a week and boy is it starting to show. My family will be happy to know that I have refilled my Rx and I will be able to tolerate them again soon! I can handle my children to a certain point. They are boys, they like to wrestle and fight but I cannot handle the squealing and whining that comes along with it. They play and they have the attention span of an ant so I know that my house gets messy. What I cannot stand is when I spend the WHOLE day cleaning and if you stopped by my house, you wouldn't even know it. It still looks like a bomb went off. That has to be the most frustrating thing ever. My husband probably thinks I'm the worlds biggest lazy ass wife and that I don't do a damn thing while he's gone. I know he doesn't think that at all but that's how I feel!

This extreme bitching leads me to my current dilemma. My 9 year old son. I'm 5'3" and 110 lbs. I'm not a big person and he is gaining on me, standing at my shoulders and weighing in at 65 lbs). Today we had a MAJOR blowout and it took all of my strength to take his tantrum on. He was angry that I was making him re clean the bathroom that he did a half assed job on. It would have taken him 5 minutes to fix the things that he missed. Instead he started with the attitude and arguing with me, and after I had had enough I sent him to his room. This is where it got ugly. He went into a total rage, screaming and yelling so loud in my face I though he would burst an artery. I could see the veins popping in his neck. We had a tug-o-war match with his bedroom door (he wanted out and I was trying to keep him in) and when he was too strong for me he came out and I had to physically restrain him and drag him to his room (got a visual yet ?). He is getting strong! Keep in mind that I'm trying my hardest not to laugh at him and this is making him even angrier and even funnier to me. After a few minutes of this he IS NOT calming down and he is getting to the point of hitting me and I warned him that if he didn't calm down and lower his voice that he was going to get smacked. He kept at it and he finally got his cheek thumped and thumped hard. It phased him, but only a little. Long story short it took him a good half hour to calm down and get himself under control, all the while my mind is racing wondering how long I can take his tantrums and how am I going to change this behavior. Our behavior I should say. I don't enjoy physically disciplining my kids and it makes me feel like a shitty parent, but I'm not against it and I will be damned if my kids think that they can talk to me that way and treat me or anyone disrespectfully. I refuse my child to turn into one of these disrespectful little punks that I see all too often.
Sooooo, if there is anyone out there that has any advice for me I would truly appreciate it. For now I'm going to take a much needed break from my family and enjoy my weekend! I will take lots of pictures and post them when I get home.

Wordful Wednesday

The kids and I were hanging out watching it snow and there was just a perfect light coming in thru our front window and I couldn't resist snapping some (or a ton) of photos. I LOVE it when my kids act so cute! I love capturing their moments of silliness and innocence!

Week in review

I dont know what it is but I just dont feel like being on the computer! It's not that I have nothing to blog about, believe me, my life is far from boring! I've noticed it throughout the bloggysphere as well. It must be the nice weather and all of us suffering from cabin fever. We just want to get outside and get stuff done. Well at least that's how I have been! This past week the weather was b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. It was 70-80 degrees and sunny almost all week, that is until the weekend came and it decided to be chilly again. Why is that? It's nice when were all stuck inside at work and then it gets nasty on our days off? I have never understood how mother nature does that.

Enough about the weather this is what we accomplished this week!
Monday there was no school and we cleaned (yeah I know thats nothing unusual around here) and had dinner at the Pizza Shop where the kids got a lesson on how to make dough. They were really interested! Baseball practiced was cancelled due to soggy fields from the previous weekend.
Tuesday was back to school and a pretty lazy day, we hung out outside and enjoyed the weather. Wednesday I was back to work (if you could call it that) and it was really slow, I made a whopping $30 in tips. Needless to say that didnt go very far! Then it was off to baseball practice and it was so nice to sit there and watch the kids without freezing my tush off or sitting in the car listening to the little ones fight.
Thursday was National take your child to work day and Shaymus went to work with me at the restaurant. It was even slower than the day before! He had fun though and I think he got an idea of what I do and why I'm so tired when I get home from a busy day. He took over and was refilling drinks, getting bread and clearing dishes. He was a great helper and even made some money. We were busy so I was only able to get 1 picture of him eating lunch with one of the other kids. Friday was filled with running kids to and from school and yard work. Our front and back yard was in need of some major TLC. We paid a guy to come power rake and aerate the lawn. We put grass seed down, cleaned out the flower beds and planted seeds. All of that work got me really excited for spring and summer to get here and stay here! I'm excited to start planting all of my flowers and to finally see some color around here again!
Saturday was work for me and day with dad. When I got home we went shopping for a birthday gift, scrapbooking stuff (for my girls getaway next weekend, stay tuned) and returned the piece of shit portable DVD player that we bought 2 months ago. What ever you do, dont buy the memorex 10" widescreen portable dvd player, EVER. It sucks and it broke after 1 1/2 months of use. Thank goodness they let us return it! That would have been $150 down the drain.

And finally, today was filled with cleaning, dying my hair, cleaning, a football game and double header baseball games.
Whew, what a week. Oh and I have a question, can anyone guess what my child is eating? I'll give you a hint, it's meant to be outside and not in his mouth!
I swear to god if this "fashion" isnt gone by the time my kids are in highschool I will lock them in a closet! The hubby and I couldnt help but stare (and laugh)at these two and their outfits. How is it that the kids think THIS is cool????

Anyway, I hope everyone had a wonderful week! Check back often as I am planning on another giveaway!

How dad's entertain the children

This is what happens when I leave playtime up to Daddy. I don't think I have EVER seen my son laugh so hard. I thought he was going to throw his dinner up. All they wanted was for dad to play with the clay and build something. That he did........................

Jaxson thinks this is the funniest thing on the planet. Too bad I didn't get the video going sooner. My dumb ass thought it was going and it wasn't. I got the tail end of it when he was getting tired of laughing!

Columbine, 10 years later

Today is the 10th anniversary for the Columbine massacre and the city is once again remembering the individuals who were lost and the lives that were changed so long ago. There was a candle light vigil last night and I'm sure that there are hoards of people streaming in and out of the memorial. I visited there over the summer, if you would like to see it (the memorial) click here. It's hard to believe that it has been ten years already, it seems like it was yesterday. I remember, I was living in Arizona at the time but was visiting Denver when the shooting happened. The restaurant that I worked for let me pick up shifts while I was in town and I remember all of us standing in front of the TV in total shock. We stood there and watched as those kids ran from the school and wondered when the police were going to go in. We watched wondering if there were kids that were still alive, waiting to be rescued, while the police did sweeps of the building for bombs. It was so surreal and unbelievable. To think that it was happening only a few miles away. To this day, every time I drive by the high school I have those pictures in my mind. April 20, 1999 is a day that many people will never forget. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families haunted by that day. To learn more about some of the survivors of that day click here. To watch a video click here.

A boring bloggy soggy week!!!!

Yes it's snowing, again. We are in the midst of a soggy wet storm and I have writers block. So to days post is going to be a mish mash of our weeks events. Nothing special, nothing exciting, just our life over the past few days! My bamboo plant decided to croak on me and I couldn't tell you why but it ended up in the trash truck on Tuesday. The kids decided that they LOVE edamame and they cant stop eating it, I wont stop them either. If they want to eat healthy stuff then by all means go right ahead. We had a bash for my dads 60th birthday and I made 70 cupcakes for the party (and came home with about 25). I never even got around to doing an Easter post, but the kids had a (messy) blast coloring eggs the night before. I don't know why but Easter really snuck up on me this year and I wasn't ready for it all! We made ham, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, asparagus, deviled eggs and yummy rolls. I made homemade ham and bean soup last night but that is a post for another day. Stay tuned! The hubby added a new piece of art............................it's St. Michael the protector of police and their families. It was also a tribute tattoo to two of his buddies that have lost their lives in the line of duty. Last but not least we had a strange visitor to our yard. I couldn't tell you what it is either. I originally thought it was a quail but it's not and I haven't seen it since I followed it into my neighbors garage and took this picture of it. Anyone have an answer for me???

Cat pee.............it stinks, literally.

So Squishy has suddenly started using my carpets as his litter box. For the last week I have been trying to find the location of the smell but had no luck. I swore it was coming from the litter box and have been constantly cleaning it out. The poor cat can barely finish his business without me scooping it out. Well last night we were watching t.v. and that was all I could smell, cat piss/ammonia. Its disgusting and I have such a sensitive nose that I smell even the littlest hints of stench. So instead of watching the tube with the hubby I spent 15 minutes crawling around my living room with my nose to the floor..................bingo, I found it. Damn cat has been peeing in the corner and all along the front of the fire place!!!! Whats a cranky mommy to do? Get out the carpet cleaner and start scrubbing, I sprayed the resolve on and let it sit over night and now guess what? It smells even worse. My project for today..........steam cleaning my living room and while I'm at it, all of the other rooms in the house. It's a perfect day to do it, it's warm out, so I can open my windows and let it dry quickly. If the cat keeps it up, this is where he is going to end up!!!! permanently.

Wordful Wednesday

So I racked my brain for a WW post and came up with nothin! I haven't posted a recipe in awhile so this is what you get. A yummy wordful (mouthful) Wednesday.
I like to expose my kids to different tastes from around the world and show them how good and different foods can taste. Tonight I got a wild hair and decided to make this........
Garam Masala roasted Pork Tenderloin with couscous and corn. It turned out so good and it was sooooo easy to make. 5 minutes prep time cooked on low for 2 hours.
Here's how
1 pork tenderloin any size. Mix the garam seasoning (1 tbsp), garlic salt(1/4 tsp.) and pepper (1/4 tsp) on a sheet of foil and roll the tenderloin in it. Put it in the oven covered and bake at 300 degrees for 2 hours. Uncover the last 15 minutes and prepare your couscous and veggies. Mine just happens to be corn because that's all I can get my kids to eat! The older kid loved it, the little ones weren't too hip on the spices, but hey, they tried it! Enjoy. Your making what???

The last little bit of snow (a snowmans head) lay in the back yard and the kids found a way to play with it! They kept coming inside and telling me that they were making a ladies head. Huh? So what do I do? I grab the camera of course! Here's what I found.
Lindsey is a friend of mine and she looks nothing like this!!!!!!
